M42
The M42 is a dual-purpose improved conventional munition (DPICM) developed in the United States in the 1970s.
These cluster munitions, like other similar types (such as the Russian 3B30, 3-0-25, etc.), possess the characteristics of both shaped-charge munitions (for engaging armored vehicles) and fragmentation munitions (for engaging personnel). This is where the name “dual-purpose” comes from.
