Properties

Group
Pyrotechnic
Class
Propelling / ejection
State
Зерна різного розміру. Зерна можуть бути спресовані в пластини, призми, куби та інші правильні форми.
Color
шиферно-сірий, з тьмяним поліруванням. Окремі зерна зазвичай покриті графітом, який зменшує тертя ковзання і надає блискучий чорний колір.
Sensitivity
Вважається найчутливішою з усіх сипучих вибухових речовин. Дуже чутливий до тертя, нагрівання та ударів.

BLACK POWDER

Black powder (BLACK POWDER) is a projectile / propellant weapon. A mechanical mixture of finely ground potassium or sodium nitrate, charcoal, and sulfur (usually 75:15:10 percent). Current military applications are limited to incendiary and capsule charges, ring and combination detonators, delay pellets for fuzes and detonators, basic detonating torpedo impulse and metal charges, blank ammunition, smoke and point charges, bursting charges for training bombs and projectiles, and ignition pads for bags of smokeless powder.

Composition

A mechanical mixture of finely ground potassium or sodium nitrate, charcoal, and sulfur (usually 75:15:10 percent).

Melting point

Does not melt.

Solubility

Desensitizes in water because potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate dissolves. However, the wash water must be separated from the residue, as if wetted and allowed to dry, the black powder may regain its explosive properties.

Burn rate

The burning rate is difficult to control. Representative burning speed - 370 m/sec.

Application

Current military applications are limited to incendiary and capsule charges, ring and combination detonators, delay pellets for fuzes and detonators, basic detonating torpedo impulse and metal charges, blank ammunition, smoke and point charges, bursting charges for training bombs and projectiles, and ignition pads for bags of smokeless powder.

Note

Very stable when stored properly. It is not exposed to moderately high temperatures and is not prone to self-ignition at normal storage temperatures. Very hygroscopic. Under the influence of moisture, it breaks down unevenly. Corrodes all common metals except stainless steel when wet or excessively wet.
