PICRATOL
Picratol (PICRATOL) is an explosive BP. A mixture of danite and TNT. The explosive substance of the main charge used in armor-piercing bombs.
Composition
A mixture of danite and TNT.
Melting point
Does not have a sharp melting point. At a temperature above the melting temperature of TNT, ammonium picrate is suspended in molten TNT.
Solubility
Both ammonium picrate and TNT dissolve well in dimethylformamide. Ammonium picrate is soluble in hot water; slightly soluble in ethyl alcohol or cold water. TNT dissolves in acetone, ethyl alcohol, benzene or carbon tetrachloride.
Application
The explosive substance of the main charge used in armor-piercing bombs.
