PICRIC ACID
Picric acid (PICRIC ACID) is explosive BP. Explosive substance used as the main charge.

Solubility
Slightly soluble in water or ether; sparingly soluble in ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or benzene. Soluble in toluene, methyl alcohol or baking soda solution. It dissolves very well in acetone.
Toxicity
Very toxic. When in contact with the dry powder, it leaves stains on the skin and hair; can cause dermatitis. Usually affected.
Application
Explosive substance used as the main charge. In Japan, it is used as the main charge and as an intermediate charge. The French used it as a component of explosive mixtures. The Germans used it as an intermediate detonator. It is used mainly in the USA in the production of dannite (ammonium picrate) and for the formation of mixtures with other components.
